Yesterday you quietly turned 20 years old and left your teen age years behind in a cloud of dust. I say good riddance. I don’t think that you will disagree with me when I point out that they were some of the most painful years of my life. I don’t want to speak for you, but I dare say that they were that way for you too. And although most of that pain has long ago been put to bed, it is still with much pleasure that we bid them goodbye.
We celebrated with dinner at Apple Bees, which as I mentioned was a low key affair. You seem to prefer to keep things that way these days. The littlest cherubs enjoyed the crap out of seeing you, so it was no surprise that when I picked them up from school today and told them the
bomb surprise you dropped on me today they. went. nuts. Literally nuts in my poor little SUV.
So the surprise? Not sure where it came from but you moved back home today. I want you to know that while I was really proud of you moving out on our own last summer, I am oh so happy to have you back. I always miss you when you are gone and I am so enjoying having all my family under one roof again. Even if it is only for a short period, while you head back to welding school.
Jacob, I’m sorry to get all mushy on you, but you know this is the part where it must be done. (Any bets if I make it through with out crying?) Man, and I do mean man, do I love you. I love you with a power I never thought possible. You are the one who taught me what love meant and more importantly, how to love. You have always had to be the trail blazer around here. It’s no secret that I had you way too young and that we totally learned and grew together. But despite that or maybe because of it, I am a better person for having been your mom, but most importantly, you are a good person. You don’t always make the choices I wish you would, but you are kind and a hard worker and you are good. Thank you for being the man you are, (despite or because of me.) You make me proud every single day.
PS It was nice of you to where a clean shirt to dinner. *Heavy Sigh*
PSS I’m still 21.
